HOUSTON – Texas Southern University's Lady Tigers concluded their weekend series with Alabama State with a 5-2 victory over the Lady Hornets on Saturday.
Â
TSU pitcher Jasmin Fulmore earned her second complete-game victory in as many days as she struck out six batters and allowed only 10 baserunners while not giving up an earned run.
Â
Fulmore carried a shutout into the seventh inning in leading Texas Southern to a 5-2 victory over Alabama State Saturday afternoon at Memorial Park.
After Texas Southern (12-9, 4-2 SWAC) got on the board in the first inning when Dominique Tello scored on a wild pitch, TSU pressed its advantage in the third when Jocilynn Ellis led with a single to left field. After Tello drew her second walk of the game, Chanler Powell delivered a two-run double. Pinch-runner Zariah Robins later scored on a wild pitch.
Madilynn Marek slapped a RBI single in the fifth to put TSU ahead 5-0. Alabama State (9-20, 4-2 SWAC) showed some life in the seventh, when Tello mishandled a Laura Aguilar grounder that scored Brittany Wilson, who led off with a walk. Aguilar ultimately reached second base during the play and later scored on a single by Valerie Centeno. However, Centeno was tagged out during an attempt to stretch to second, and a groundout ended the game.
Centeno, Kendall Core and Therese Byrne each had two hits. Fulmore fanned six, allowing no earned runs on nine hits for the victory. Ellis was 2-for-2. Justine Jean took the loss for ASU, going three innings and allowing four hits, four runs and four walks.

The Lady Tigers return to action Tuesday when they host Houston Baptist in a single game at 4 p.m.
