HOUSTON– Texas Southern won both ends of a double-header against Southern by scores of 5-2 and 3-2.
After Shauna Knighten hit a two-run double in the third to tie things up, the Lady Tigers (17-13, 10-2 SWAC) took control in game one with a three-run fourth inning.
During the deciding frame, Haley Smith knocked a RBI single, and Chanler Powell drove in two more runs with a ground-rule double.
Southern (4-15, 1-7 SWAC) threatened in the seventh, getting runners on second and third with two outs but Knighten flied out to end the threat and the game.
Jasmine Fulmore (6-7) picked up the win in a complete game effort, allowing five hits and striking out five. Tiara Scott took the loss for Southern (4 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 6 BB). Alicia Barajas was 2-for-4 for SUBR.
In game two, Southern took the early advantage as Kiara Suttles hit her 10th home run of the year in the first inning and Sydney Andrews (3-for-4) got a RBI base hit in the third.
TSU scored twice via Jaguar errors, and in the sixth took the lead for good when Amber Garza (1-for-3, two RBI) hit a single that Powell (2-for-3) was able to score on.
Kayleigh Thomas received the loss, allowing seven hits and three runs (one earned) in 6.0 innings.
Lauren Rodriguez picked up the win with 1.1 innings of relief, during which she struck out two.
